Picturesque landscape covered by undulating and rugged mountains, with abundantly spread out sands, sun drenched beautiful golden desert. Waves are dancing to the tune of nature and pounding onto the shore only to take away the sand castle yes you are right I am speaking about beach. All these beauties have one destination. One name…..Yes Beauty has name and the name is OMAN!!!!!

The Land of Arabian Nights, which we used to read about in our childhood, is situated in Southwest Asia on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula and has a beautiful name, 'Sultanate of Oman.' Culture and tradition is the very essence of Oman.  Cultural richness flaunts in almost every Omani resident. Men in ankle length dishdasha and women in Sirwal and Lihaf look just like the fairy tale couples. Oman is one of the oldest civilizations of Arabian Peninsula. With unspoilt natural landscape, scenic lavishness, the desert sands just enrich the beauty of Oman.

Pristine beaches along with date palms swaying around, untamed desert, rugged mountains and citrus groves to add the colour and vibrancy to this beauty. The synonym I am looking for the beauty of Oman is exotic.Exotic is best description for Oman.
A place which has tell tales of preserved history, unspoiled nature to explore from desert to ocean is every traveler's choice. A dream destination for every soul with unquenched thirst for exploration of the myriad cultures across the globe.

This exquisite beauty of land has been on my travel itinerary for ages but I want to explore this beauty leisurely and savoir every moment the beauty endows on me. As you all know that I love travelling. For me travelling is not going to a place and getting a picture clicked in front of famous monument and get it framed. For me travelling is liberation. Liberation of my soul from rigmaroles of life and prejudices of society. You see the very place we live in is based on certain beliefs and traditions and we tend to believe it as the ultimate truth throughout our life. But travelling exposes to other ethereal cultures and traditions that exist around the world and liberated a imprisoned soul.
My way for the fulfilment and liberation is exploring the place in a unique way by being a part of the culture and tradition. This helps me to make a heavenly connect with the place I visit. Thus after being on my itinerary for ages, finally I am getting to go to my dream destination,OMAN.After spending hours, using my googling skills,I developed a pretty fair idea to make this trip unique for both my body and my soul.
I decided that I would travel the length and breath of Oman using a motor Bike. Why motor bike?, you might ask.Well, motor biking is a good way not only to travel but also get to know the sights and sounds of Oman. The additional benefit is that if I like some place,I just park my bike and make the place home for the night or two.Anyways Omanis are known to be very hospitable so spending nights in the wild is not an issue. It would be a hell of a adventurous ride.

Google informed me that, whom so ever had made this adventurous journey had only praise for both biking and Oman.Almost everybody on net speaks about the hospitality of an Omani whom they happened to meet. Hiring a bike is an easy task and you just need an international 2 wheel driving licence.  Adhere to the local laws and road safety measures, the ride will be just cake walk.

Muscat

Muscat is the fantastic city from where I begin my Omani sojourn.  Muscat is the largest city and the capital of Oman which has historical significance. Muscat is a mix of ancient cultural heritage and rightly blended modernity keeping in with modern times. Muscat which gives multiple experiences to a traveller. Every one, visiting solo or with family, has an opportunity to enjoy the city in their own way. A perfect gateway for nature lovers.

Muttrah is a city located in Muscat province of Oman. A perfect place for all shopaholics and souvenir hunters. Markets are called souq in Oman. Al dhalam is a local name for Muttrah souq which means Darkness. Al Dhalam is named so because, even during the day time sunrays don’t penetrate the crowded stalls and narrow lanes. The market is full of household items, garments ,shoes etc. Out of all the wares on sale, Omani silverware and old Arabian muskets are the best things to carry back home to remember the Arabian land.Scarves, paintings, pots and many other Omani handicrafts are also available here

Muttrah Fort is another attraction which gives an illusion of connecting passage between Muttrah and Muscat. Port Sultan Qaboos is the largest port of Muscat, where visitors get to witness the variety the nature offers. It has everything of something, beaches, sands and dunes and mountains.

It takes a bare minimum 2 days to explore entire Muscat and understand it, more if you fall in love with it. There are many things to see, many things to experience and feel.

After Muscat I will start my journey towards south along the coastal route to Sur. This would be a ride to remember for any biker. A perfect scenic beauty on the both side, Arabian Gulf on one side and Eastern Hajar mountains on other side. A perfectly blended beauty is what you get to see in this high way. Before reaching Sur,you get to visit Quriyat, the fishing village,Bimah sinkhole,a beautiful white sandy beach-Fins beach and WadiTiwi is in my list of places to visit.

Quriyat is a small fishing village which typically represents Omani culture. Its little an hour over ride from Muscat and is famous for its serene, picturesque nature. It was once a major port in the old Arabia but now its just a peaceful, serene village. Take a stroll around the harbour, embrace the cool breeze of Arabian Gulf and watch juggling fishing boats and dhows in the water.
My ride continues towards Sur along the costal route. Sur is also called as fishing town and famous for the famous Arab Dhow shipyards. The city of Sur is one of the ancient Omani cities and the sea still holds an importance in Sur dwellers life. Old Omani style houses with carved doors and windows are there to tell tales of ancient Omani culture

My next ride is towards Wahiba sands. The desert region of Oman and name Wahiba derived from Wahiba tribes. Ride in Oman is incomplete without a drama of sands and dunes. Camping on desert watching stars in the night along golden sand. There are many hotels which offer night camping on desert with lot many desert related activities.

Long miles spread out desert,
It seems empty from far,
Nature has a way to change the patterns of dunes,
As if every pattern has a story of someone’s life
Go near, each sand dune has surprise for you…
Wahiba sands it is….

After a night affair under the sky of Wahiba, my itinerary says to ride towards WadiBani Khalid-[Wadi-Oasis}. It’s a famous Wadi in Sharqiyah region. It’s famous getaway for family picnics and is also popular among adventure seekers. Unique rocks, crystal clear blue pools, beautiful waterfalls makes people to come back to this place to have a pall over new experience in every visit.

After a spectacular experience in WadiBani Khalid my ride continues towards north for about 3 hrs to reach Nizwa. Many centuries ago Nizwa was capital of Oman and that explains its historic importance in Omani culture. Goat market on Thursday and Friday is the must do for any tourist and a truly wholesome Arabic experience here. Magnificent Nizwa fort is in my list of to do in Nizwa.Jabrin Castle and Bhala is my next visit and my ride continues towards JabalAkbhar and WadiHabib.
Another adventurous ride towards Grand Canyon of Oman.

From Al Khitaym village, I follow the balcony trail along the mountain edge to an abandoned village Sab Bani Khamis which clings to the rocks completely hidden from view from above and below, it would take more than hour to walk there but worth a shot. A spectacularly stunning Grand Canyon type view would take away all the tiredness of an hour long walk.
A ride towards WadiBaniAwf, later, offers exciting off roads biking experience for about 45 minutes through the entire lenght of the wadi.  The wadi leads to a place called snake Canyon. This place offers a variety of adventures like swimming, rappelling and other adventure sports.

From here I bike back to Muscat via Western Hajar mountain range pausing at Nakhal fort before reaching Muscat.Nakhal Fort is one of the most prominent historical monuments in the Sultanate. It derives its name from the Wilaya itself. The fort lies amidst palm orchards in Wilayt Nakhal in Al Batinah South Governorate. It is an entrenched building that rises above a rocky hill at the base of Mount Nakhal in the northeast of Al Jabal Al Akhdar (Green Mountain)Also called Husn Al Heem, the fort lies 120 kilometres from the capital Muscat and is located at the entrance of Wilayt Nakhal in Wadi Ar Raqeem.

Watching the grand elegance of the fort gives us goosebumps at the sheer gigantic scales on which Arabia and its landscape was formed in the ancient times.

After biking around the fort and its periphery, I head down to Muscat which is about 3 hours away.  Starting at 10 in the morning I reach Muscat at around meal time. Travelling makes me very hungry and Muscati food is a delicacy worth trying.I head for the nearest hotel to satiate my tingling tongue.Omanis cook special dishes for festive occasions including the two main religious festivals - Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha. In Dhofar and Wusta, the festivities start with ruz al mudhroub (a dish made of cooked rice and served with fried fish) and maqdeed, special dried meat. In Muscat, Al Batinah, Dahira and Sharqiya regions, muqalab (a dish of tripe cooked with crushed or ground spices) is popular. Other dishes served during Eid festivities include arsia, a dish of lamb meat cooked with rice, and mishkak, skewered meat grilled on charcoal.

My tongue may be wagging but my stomach is too small for all these so I go for Shuwa (meat cooked slowly for up to two days in underground clay ovens, marinated with herbs and spices), Mashuai (spit-roasted kingfish served with lemon rice) Maqbous (rice dish with saffron cooked over spicy red or white meat) and Halwa (sticky, gelatinous sweet made from dates or sugar and flavoured with saffron, cardamom and rosewater) just like the one found in India.

After eating now is the time to relax and relax it is at the Muscati beach front.  People back home have suggest that I try out the Oman Dive Centre for relaxing while in Muscat. Oman has every bit of sea in its life.  From swallow sea diving to scuba and snorkelling, ODC offer you all.You can also book a boat to go for Dophin viewing which is quite a hit among tourist.

Alas now is the time to return home,I will truly miss Oman. So much to offer so little time but I promise myself to return again. And before I leave I return my bike to the hiring agency.
